Theory of angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy in graphene-based moiré superlattices

چکیده
Graphene-based moir\'e superlattices are now established as an interesting platform for strongly-correlated many-electron physics, and have so far been characterized mainly by transport scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) measurements. Motivated recent experimental progress, we present a theoretical model study whose aim is to assess the potential of angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) resolve some many open issues in these systems. The theory developed specifically graphene on hexagonal boron nitride (G/hBN) twisted bilayer (TBG) superlattices, but readily generalized any system with active degrees freedom sheets.

Interlayer interaction and electronic screening in multilayer graphene investigated with angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy.
The unusual transport properties of graphene are the direct consequence of a peculiar band structure near the Dirac point. We determine the shape of the pi bands and their characteristic splitting, and find the transition from two-dimensional to bulk character for 1 to 4 layers of graphene by angle-resolved photoemission. By detailed measurements of the pi bands we derive the stacking order, la...
متن کاملNon-equilibrium Dirac carrier dynamics in graphene investigated with time- and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy.
We have used time- and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (tr-ARPES) to assess the influence of many-body interactions on the Dirac carrier dynamics in graphene. From the energy-dependence of the measured scattering rates we directly determine the imaginary part of the self-energy, visualizing the existence of a relaxation bottleneck associated with electron-phonon coupling. A comparison...
متن کاملAngle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy of liquid water at 29.5 eV
Angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy of liquid water was performed using extreme ultraviolet radiation at 29.5 eV and a time-of-flight photoelectron spectrometer. SiC/Mg coated mirrors were employed to select the single-order 19th harmonic from laser high harmonics, which provided a constant photon flux for different laser polarizations. The instrument was tested by measuring photoemission...
متن کاملAngle-Resolved Photoemission Spectroscopy Studies of Curpate Superconductors
This paper summarizes experimental results presented at the international conference honoring Prof. C.N. Yang’s 80 birthday. I show seven examples that illustrate how one can use angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy to gain insights into the many-body physics responsible for the rich phase diagram of cuprate superconductors. I hope to give the reader a snapshot of the evolution of this exp...
متن کاملElectronic structure of MgB2 from angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy.
The first angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy results from MgB2 single crystals are reported. Along the GammaK and GammaM directions, we observed three distinct dispersive features approaching the Fermi energy. These can be assigned to the theoretically predicted sigma (B 2p(x,y)) and pi (B 2p(z)) bands. In addition, a small parabolic-like band is detected around the Gamma point, which ca...
